Why is the proof of loss so important? Does it have to be filed in time?

In Florida, under many home owner’s insurance policies the insurance company has the right to ask a home owner to fill out a sworn statement and proof of loss. If an insurance company has requested this proof of loss document, then there is an obligation to return the document to the insurance company timely. The proof of loss is very important because it documents the cause of the loss, it documents the amount of the loss, it documents various other information that the insurance company may request. If you have any questions about completing a proof of loss, you should contact an attorney.
