What should I do after my home is burglarized?

The first thing you’re going to want to do is contact the police and report that burglary. Most policies of insurance are going to require that in order for you to submit a burglary claim to them, you’re going to need a police report to support that claim. Additionally, you want to make sure that the information you include in that police report is accurate as the insurance company is going to use that to determine what damages or what items you’re claiming as being stolen.

If throughout the course of the investigation of the burglary, it comes to your attention that additional items that were not originally included in the first police report were left out inadvertently, you want to make sure you amend your police report to include a complete inventory of all items stolen during that burglary to use and provide to your insurance company as support for your claim.
