Does our homeowners’ insurance company have the right to tell us what contractor to use?

There are several insurance companies in Florida that are invoking what is called “The Option to Repair”. What that means is the insurance company in lieu of paying you monitory damages for the loss that you sustained, instead they’re retaining a contractor or a repair man to perform those repairs. If you have any questions or concerns about the contractor that they’ve hired, or the repairs they’re electing to repair as a result of the loss, there are some avenues in which you can contest that. It’s recommended that you contact a professional in order to determine what you’re rights are.
