Do I need to contact the police for a theft or burglary?

Yes. Most insurance policies actually, specifically require that you contact the police in the event of a theft, burglary or vandalism, and they require that you make a report with the police. Once you get that report from the police, you want to make sure that everything stated in that is accurate because what you’ve reported to the police can and will be used in your case later on.
