Does my homeowners’ policy cover water damage?Return to FAQ Videos
There is water damage from a flood, or from rising water, or from spray from a tide. That sort of water damage is generally excluded from coverage under homeowner’s policies in Florida. There are other types of water damage, such as a broken pipe or a mechanical failure, where water will cause damage to a property based on a pipe or an appliance breaking. Those sorts of water damages are generally covered under what are known as all-risk policies of homeowner’s insurance in the state of Florida. If you have a different type of policy, such as a named peril policy, water damage may be completely excluded from coverage. It’s going to depend on the type of policy that you have.
