What is appraisal? Who pays for what?Return to FAQ Videos
Appraisal is an alternative dispute resolution that allows you and your insurance company to both retain experts to present your side as to the scope and the amount of damage sustained to your home. If those 2 parties aren’t able to agree, a neutral umpire is appointed to assess the damages and reach a determination as to the scope and pricing and amount of damages.
As to who pays, you would be responsible for paying for your appraiser as well as splitting the cost of the umpire that’s selected, for their time in assisting you with reaching a final resolution as to your claim for damages.
